Your course was delivered partly online. Does that affect recognition?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no — recognition authorities care how a qualification was delivered, policies differ and change, and nobody can answer it from memory. Before you accept the offer, ask two questions in writing: will the transcript and certificate record the delivery mode, and how is the programme registered in the accreditation record? Ask now — after graduation the options shrink.
01 · The question nobody asked at enrolment
My course went partly online. Does that affect recognition?
Mode of study is now part of the recognition question. Ask your institution in writing how the programme is registered and whether the transcript will record the delivery mode, and ask the recognition authority at home what effect it has. Ask before you accept an offer, not at graduation.
This question arrived with a generation of courses that moved online, and it will outlast them, because the delivery mix is now a permanent feature of higher education — including in Malaysia. Recognition authorities are interested in how a qualification was delivered, and in some cases distance or online delivery is treated differently. Where exactly the lines sit today is a matter of policy, and policies change — which is why this page states the process and never the answer.
What is stable is the shape of the answer, and it is three questions in writing. Two go to your institution: will my transcript and certificate mention delivery mode — yes or no, and if yes, in what words? And how is this programme registered in the accreditation record — as on-campus, as mixed, as something else? The third goes to the recognition authority at home: if part of my programme was online, what effect does that have on my assessment?

The timing is the whole warning. Ask these three questions today, and the answers are information: you can compare programmes, choose the one whose papers are cleanest, or negotiate the delivery mix. Ask them at graduation, and the answers are a verdict on a decision that was made years earlier and can no longer be changed. Nothing about the recognition question is unusual in this — it is the same discipline the recognition pillar teaches for the degree itself: the questions are cheap early and expensive late.
One more thing, said plainly because the market says the opposite: a course that ran partly online is not a scandal, and no institution should be disparaged for how it taught during a disruption. The question is not whether online delivery is good or bad. The question is what the record says, what the authority says, and whether you asked before you paid.
